The NEET merit lists can be segregated into following types:

• Overall merit list: This merit list includes the names and ranks of all the candidates who appeared for NEET. This is the first merit list and is prepared by NTA. This merit list will be forwarded to all counselling bodies, both national and state.
• 15 per cent AIQ merit list: This merit list will contain the names of only those candidates who would qualify for the NEET UG result. This merit list is prepared by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
• State quota merit list: Every state will prepare its counselling merit lists for admissions to 85 per cent of state quota seats. These merit lists will include only those candidates who will qualify for NEET result 2024 and register for the counselling of that respective state.

NTA releases the merit list of the candidates based on the NEET result. Multiple lists are released based on the category of the candidate. An overall NEET merit list is also released which carries details of all the candidates who cleared the examination. The merit lists of NEET are then shared by the NTA with the different bodies responsible for the NEET counselling process for national and state quota seats. Based on these lists, MCC and various counselling authorities will prepare their merit or seat allotment lists. 

After observing the anomalies in the NEET 2024 result and scorecard, some students and stakeholders questioned NTA. Sample some social media posts below.

The NEET 2024 paper leak controversy was ignited when as many as 67 candidates scored full marks and AIR 1 in the exam. Moreover, two candidates scored 718 and 719 out of 720, which is not possible as per the marking scheme. Even though NTA clarified both matters, students and stakeholders are still demanding a probe and have requested Prime Minister and the Education Ministry to investigate these anomalies.

In case two or more candidates obtain equal marks/percentile scores in the NEET (UG) - 2024, the inter-se-merit shall be determined as follows: 

a. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by,

b. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry in the Test, followed by,  

c. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Physics in the Test, followed by,  

d. Candidate with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test,  

e. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by  

f. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the Test, followed by  

g. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the Test,  

h. Application Number in ascending order.  

The last factor has been added later by NTA.

According to the National Medical Commission of India, there are as many as 706 medical colleges in India offering a total of 1,09,170 MBBS seats.

Uttar Pradesh is the state with the highest number of NEET 2024 qualifying candidates (1,65,047) followed by Maharashtra (1,42,665) and Rajasthan (1,21,240).

As per the data shared of NTA, 56 per cent test takers have qualified for NEET 2024. 

Regarding the computation and declaration of NEET 2024, NTA has stated, "NTA has adopted a transparent system wherein the scanned copies of OMRs of all the candidates, their responses, Answer Key, and Booklet Code will be hosted on the website in the candidates’ login accounts. Candidates were allowed to make challenges from 29 May 2024 to 01 June 2024 (up to 11:00 A.M). The Question Paper and recorded responses (scanned copy of OMR Answer Sheet) along with the Answer Key were displayed on the website for verification by examinees. After verification by the Subject Experts, the Revised/Final Answer Keys were published on the website. Based on the Final Answer Keys, the result/rank of the NEET (UG) – 2024 is declared."

e. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by  

f. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the Test, followed by  

g. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the Test,  

h. Application Number in ascending order.  

The last factor has been added later by NTA.

The NEET 2024 counselling process is likely to begin in July 2024. The state-level counselling for 85 per cent State Quota seats will begin around August 2024.

If any anomaly or discrepancy is found after the process of challenges of the key verification, it will be addressed by NTA in the following manner: 

(i) Correct answer or the most appropriate answer: Four marks (+4)

(ii) Any incorrect option marked will be given minus one mark (-1).

(iii) Unanswered: No mark (0).

(iv) If more than one option is found to be correct then Four marks (+4) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.

(v) If all options are found to be correct then Four marks (+4) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question.

(vi) If none of the options is found correct or a Question is found to be wrong or a Question is dropped then all candidates who have appeared will be given four marks (+4) irrespective of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.

(vii) Candidates are advised to do the calculations with the constants given (if any) in the questions.

NEET OMR sheet refers to candidates’ response sheet or the scanned copy of candidates’ OMR sheets where they had marked their answer with a blue/black pen which was provided at the exam centre.

No, NTA does not have any role in the NEET counselling process. After the NEET result is declared, it shares the details of qualifying candidates to counselling authorities such as the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). 

Candidates who qualified for NEET will be considered eligible to participate in the NEET counselling process, which is conducted at both state and national levels. The national-level counselling for admission to the 15 per cent All India quota seats will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).

NEET scorecard is an individual document which carries information regarding candidates' obtained scores, percentiles and ranks. On the other hand, a merit list is a common document which consists of the list of test takers along with their scores and ranks. Both the documents are prepared by NTA the exam conducting body. The NEET scorecard is issued only to candidates who can download it by logging in through their registration credentials and nobody else can access it. NEET merit list, on the other hand, is released publicly and includes the All India Rank list of candidates along with their obtained scores, percentiles and state.

The NEET score is the actual mark obtained by a candidate in the NEET exam. It is a raw score that reflects the number of correct answers a candidate has attempted. The NEET score is used to determine the qualifying status of a candidate for admission to medical and dental colleges. On the other hand, NEET percentile indicates the candidate's performance relative to other examinees. It is a measure of how many candidates have scored equal to or below the candidate's score in the exam. The percentile score is calculated by dividing the total number of candidates who appeared for the exam into 100 equal groups, with each group representing a percentile.

For example, if a candidate scores 600 out of 720 in NEET, their percentile score would be around 90, indicating that they have scored higher than 90 per cent of the total candidates who appeared for the exam.

In summary, the NEET score reflects the actual mark obtained, while the percentile score reflects the candidate's relative performance compared to others. Both scores are important, and they serve different purposes in the admission process.

There were several questions raised on how it is possible for a couple of candidates to obtain 718 or 719 in NEET 2024. In a statement, NTA clarified that they considered these cases and implemented the normalization formula, as per the Hon'ble Apex Court's judgment dated June 13, 2018. This formula was used to ascertain the loss of examination time and provide affected candidates with grace marks. Consequently, candidate scores could reflect unusual totals, such as 718 or 719. A percentile refers to the comparison between the score of one candidate vis-a-vis the other test takers. It is the percentage of scores that a particular score surpassed. NTA has stated the formula to calculate the NEET percentile, which is given below:

100 multiplied by the Number of candidates with their raw score equal to/ less than the candidate divided by the Total number of candidates who appeared for NEET. 

Till last year, NEET merit list revealed candidates' total obtained scores. However, this year, candidates' or NEET 2024 toppers' scores have not been released in the merit list. 

NTA has released the NEET 2024 result in the form of scorecards and merit list. The NEET 2024 merit list, or the list of toppers include the following information:

A total of 67 candidates have secured AIR 1 in NEET 2024. The corresponding percentile for NEET 2024 toppers is 99.9971285. This is the largest number of NEET toppers over the years.

NEET 2024 was conducted in 571 cities across India and abroad. The total number of NEET 2024 exam centres was 4,750. 

NEET 2024 exam was conducted on Sunday, May 5, 2024, from 2 PM to 5.20 PM (IST). 

NEET 2024 result was originally scheduled to be declared on June 14, 2024. However, NTA released the NEET result 2024 10 days in advance.

According to NTA, the languages which were least opted for in NEET 2024 were Punjabi, Malayalam and Kannada. Incidentally, Punjabi and Malayalam languages were added in 2021.

NTA is yet to release the NEET 2024 toppers list or merit list. Based on reports, Sumit Kumar Saini and Devesh Joshi from Jaipur have topped the NEET 2024 exam with 720 marks. However, it is yet to be announced whether either of them has secured AIR 1. 

The NEET 2024 cutoff has been determined on the basis of the following factors:

• Total number of candidates who appear for the examination
• Difficulty level of the examination
• Performance of the candidates
• Number of seats available
• NEET cutoff for previous years

NTA has announced the NEET 2024 cutoff on the scorecard. Candidates who have downloaded the NEET 2024 scorecard has already got the NEET cutoff 2024 and has deduced whether they have qualified for the exam. The official press release or the notification for the NEET 2024 result is yet to be released by NTA yet. The actual cutoff of NEET 2024 will be updated here on this page immediately. Based on the expert opinion, the NEET 2024 cutoff is expected to be higher than last year, since the total number of candidates was higher and the difficulty level was lower. 

In case more than one candidate scores the same marks, NTA applies the tie-breaking criteria. The NEET 2024 tie-breaking criteria are given below:

1. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by,
2. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry in the Test, followed by,
3. Candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Physics in the Test, followed by,
4. Candidate with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the Test,
5. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Biology (Botany & Zoology) in the Test, followed by
6. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry in the Test, followed by
7. Candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics in the Test.

Although initially NTA had kept a criterion of draw by lots, it was removed later and reversed it to previous year's tie-breaking protocol. 

The total marks in NEET 2024 is 720. It is expected that more than one candidate has topped the exam with 720 exam.
