NEET aspirant from UP dies by suicide in Kota; Over two dozen cases so far

Amid the growing concern over the increasing number of suicide cases in Kota by students preparing for entrance exams including NEET and JEE, yet another such case is reported where a NEET aspirant from Uttar Pradesh has died reportedly by suicide.

Various doctors' associations and the National Medical Commission have earlier raised the issue of suicides by medical students and aspirants. Despite the growing concern about the mental health of the students preparing for the NEET and JEE exams, student suicide cases continue to rise in Kota. Now, a student from UP who was preparing for NEET reportedly died by suicide in Kota.

The deceased student has been identified as Tanveer Khan. He was preparing for NEET exam in Kota for the last one year.

The student was preparing for the NEET exam on his own, officials said, as reported by NDTV. 

Many blame the pressure of studies and the fear of failure among students for such cases. Due to multiple such incidents in Kota so far, the coaching hubs are now roping in wardens, mess workers and tiffin service providers to look for any signs of depression or stress among the students staying in hostels and PG accommodation. 

The government is also trying to stop these tragic suicides by youngsters by recommending mandatory installation of anti-hanging devices in ceiling fans. Kota Hostel Association has been encouraging the installation of anti-hanging devices since 2017, and the district administration has finally enforced it this year.

This month, IIT Delhi also organised an open house meeting to discuss the recent suicide events in the institute.
