NEET PG 2024: Supreme Court Rejects Plea Seeking Extension of Internship Cutoff; Details
Several petitioners demanded an extension of the internship deadline so that they could appear in NEET PG 2024. They said their one year of hard work would go in vain as the eligibility till August 15 is already given.
NEET PG cutoff criteria is a matter of policy, says the Supreme Court while refusing to entertain a plea seeking an extension of the internship deadline for the NEET PG exam 2024.
Provided that, the counsel of petitioners argued the decision of non-extension may result in a delay in time and efforts of the candidates. Consequently, Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud along with the bench members Justice J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra said the plea for an extension of internship cutoff for NEET PG cannot be accepted. As reported by Medical Dialogues.
“I mean people are bound to fall on the side of a particular line when there is a cut-off,” the CJI said.
However, the Apex Court allowed the petitioners to discuss the grievance with the competent authorities regarding the previous representations made in this regard.
Non Extension May Lead to Hard Work Go in Vain
Further, several petitioners demanded an extension of the internship so that they could appear in NEET PG 2024. They claim their hard work may get wasted as the eligibility till August 15 is already given.
Declining the plea, CJI said "The fixation of a cut-off for appearing in the NEET-PG Examination is a matter of policy. Any cut-off would affect students. It will be open to the Petitioners to pursue the representations within one week."
This issue concerning the internship completion deadline for NEET PG 2024 has among a major topic of discussion in recent years. Every year, multiple petitions are filed by medical practitioners seeking an extension of the internship deadline for several reasons.
