NEET PG admission: Telangana HC says introduce quota for transgenders
While noting that the state and central authorities have not created any rules for transgender in NEET PG admission, Telangana high court has asked the state and central government to introduce a transgender quota for NEET PG admission.
Telangana high court directed the state and central governments to introduce a transgender quota for NEET PG admission to help the third gender fight the prejudices prevailing against them in tune with the Supreme Court judgement in the National Legal Servies Authority case.
The court said this while hearing a petition filed by Dr Koyyala Ruth John Paul, who was seeking a PG seat under the transgender quota. He belongs to the SC community and was eligible for the transgender quota.
while asking the petitioner to revert to the court on July 20 if such a need arises, the bench of Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N Tukaramji said, "Work out a model that benefits the candidate. you can use either the state or central quota seats, whichever is beneficial to the petitioner," said the bench, as reported by TOI.
The Telangana high court noticed that the state and central authorities have not created any rules as per the Supreme Court's judgement that asked the authorities to treat transgenders as the third gender. The bench said that it constitutes prejudice and sought a sensible approach towards the transgenders.
