NEET: SC dismisses plea seeking fresh registration in NRI quota in Kerala
The top court of India has dismissed the plea by NRI students seeking time for fresh registration in the NRI quota in Kerala before NEET 2021 mop-up counselling.
Supreme Court of India has dismissed a Special Leave Petition filed by NRI Students seeking time for fresh registration in the NRI quota in Kerala before the commencement of NEET 2021 Mop-up round counselling.
The plea was challenging Kerala High Court's order dated April 8, 2022, which dismissed the writ appeal preferred by Kerala Private Medical College Management Association.
The Supreme Court bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud said, "we have dismissed the appeals for the reasons which we have indicated," as reported by Live Law.
The High Court had said in the impugned judgement, "Since it has been pointed out that the last date for admission for MBBS course is today 08.04.2022, as per the directions issued by the National Medical Commission, the appellants cannot be given liberty to grant time for fresh registration in NRI quota. We find that sufficient time was granted to the NRI quota candidates to exercise their options. Ext. P2 list was published as early as 24.12.2021. Therefore, the same can only mean that no eligible NRI candidate is available to exercise the option. We are not inclined to grant any relief to the appellants."
Scores of NEET 2022 candidates seek exam postponement
Similar to NEET PG 2022 candidates, NEET 2022 aspirants are also demanding exam deferment. The exam is scheduled to be conducted on July 17, 2022. After demanding on social media platforms now the aspirants have submitted a petition to National Testing Agency (NTA) and urged the agency to postpone the exam. The main reason behind this demand is the insufficient gap between NEET 2021 counselling and NEET 2022 and also the exam date is clashing with many other entrance examinations including CUET, JEE and EAMCET.
