NEET UG 2024 Hearing: Supreme Court to Decide fate of 24 Lakh Students Today Amid Paper Leak Allegations
The NTA has published the NEET UG 2024 results, revealing significant anomalies, prompting calls for a thorough investigation. The Supreme Court ordered results to be released city-wise and centre-wise to ensure transparency.
The Supreme Court of India will resume hearing the NEET UG 2024 case today, July 22, amid serious allegations of a paper leak. Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud aims to conclude the matter by noon and has requested a copy of the Bihar police report.
The ruling could impact nearly 24 lakh students who appeared for the exam. Over 40 petitions have been filed, including requests for the exam's cancellation, a re-test, and an investigation into irregularities. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Chandrachud, Justices J.B. Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra, emphasized that a re-examination decision must be based on concrete evidence showing the entire test was compromised.
The Supreme Court stated the exam would only be canceled if the paper leak was on a large scale. Both the Central Government and the National Testing Agency (NTA) have denied any widespread leak. The NTA contends that circulating videos of purportedly leaked NEET-UG 2024 papers are fabricated. The Union Government referenced data analytics by IIT Madras, which indicated the marks distribution followed a typical bell-shaped curve, suggesting no irregularities.
Key Findings from IIT Madras Report:
Marks distribution aligns with a normal bell curve.
No abnormal patterns in city-wise and center-wise analysis for 2023 and 2024.
An increase in marks in the 550-720 range was due to a 25% reduction in syllabus, not a leak.
The NTA addressed allegations surrounding the leaked paper videos on Telegram, demonstrating how digital image dates can be manipulated. Preliminary reports from the CBI suggest the alleged paper leak was localized rather than extensive.
The NTA has published the NEET UG 2024 results, revealing significant anomalies, prompting calls for a thorough investigation. The Supreme Court ordered results to be released city-wise and centre-wise to ensure transparency.
