New Medical College in UP: NMC Nod to 7 Institutes in Uttar Pradesh to Begin MBBS Course

New medical college in Uttar Pradesh will increase the number of MBBS seats to over 10,000 across government, private and PPP model medical colleges in the state. 

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved the inauguration of seven new medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh for the 2024-25 academic session. With the said approval, the number of MBBS seats in Uttar Pradesh crosses the 10,000 mark. Precisely, a total of 10,500 MBBS seats across government, private and PPP model medical colleges will be available in the state of Uttar Pradesh. 

Initially, Uttar Pradesh had applied for permission for 13 new medical colleges and an increase in MBBS seats in several colleges, but NMC denied the permission for new colleges. Subsequently, the state has appealed to NMC to review its decision. As a result, seven new colleges have received permission to run classes from upcoming academic sessions, as reported by Hindustan Times. 

The letter of permission has been issued to autonomous state medical colleges in Sultanpur, Kanpur Dehat, Bulandshahr, Kushinagar, Pilibhit, Bijnor, and Lalitpur with an aggregate of 600 MBBS seats. Further, the government medical college in Agra has received an additional 72 MBBS seats while the Government medical college in Meerut has received an approval of an additional 50 seats. 

New Medical College in UP: Three PPP Colleges Receive Approval

The three colleges under the Public-private partnership (PPP) have received the NMC approval from Sambhal, Maharajganj and Shamli. Further, a private medical college in Hapur has been approved for additional seats for the MBBS programme.
