FAIMA's Chairman Dr Rohan Krishnan said that the government is in full mood to start NExT from this year for trial purposes.

Dr Rohan Krishnan, the National Chairman of the Federation of All India Medical Association said that the government is all set to start National Exit Test (NExT) this year.

His tweet reads, "Prepare yourself accordingly #NEXT they are in full mood to impose from this Year for trial purpose. Source Health Ministry."

He also shared a letter from National Medical Commission Academic Cell to the Director Medical Education that says, "The National Exit Test (NExT) Regulations are likely to be finalized shortly and would be placed before the NMC in the next meeting to be scheduled in June 2023. In order to finalize the date of National Exit Test (NExT), the status regarding completion of the current batches of final MBBS professional course is required."

"It is therefore, requested that the likely date of the completion of current batches of final MBBS course in the Medical Colleges of your respective states/UTs may be intimated to NMC on or before May 31, 2023," added the letter.

NExT Details

NExT exam will be a single gateway to getting a license and practising medicine in India. It is expected to start in December 2023.

The exam will be held in two steps, Step 1 and Step 2. Step 1 will be a theory-based exam while Step 2 will check the practical knowledge of candidates seeking admission to post-graduate medical courses.

NExT 1 will be held in the computer-based mode where a total of 540 multiple-choice questions will be asked. NExT Step 2 will be a Practical /Clinical and Viva-based exam.
