NMC Amends Teacher Eligibility Regulations for Medical Colleges in India
As per the NMC’s amended “Teachers Eligibility Qualifications in Medical Institutions Regulations”, if the person has done their MBBS in India and has recognized PG qualification from any of the five English-speaking countries, they are eligible to apply for teaching jobs in medical colleges of India.
National Medical Commission (NMC) has amended the regulations for the qualifications of teachers in medical colleges and institutes in India.
"These Regulations may be called the “Teachers Eligibility Qualifications in Medical Institutions Regulations,v(Amendment), 2023. They shall come into force from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette,” said NMC's statement.
The Principal Regulations namely, “Teachers Eligibility Qualifications in Medical Institutions Regulations, 2022” were published in Part – III, Section (4) of the Gazette of India on the 22nd February, 2022, vide National Medical Commission notification No.NMC/MCI-23(I)/2021-MED, added NMC.
“The clause 12.3 of the Regulations, under the heading “General Norms regarding Foreign Postgraduate Qualifications for Equivalence”, is replaced with:- In such cases, if he/she has acquired MBBS qualification in India and recognized PG qualification, eligible for registration in India, from any of the five English speaking countries, mentioned in Section 12.1 above, and fulfils the criteria mentioned in Section 12.1, then he/she shall be considered for teaching job in medical college in India, as per Teachers Eligibility qualifications in Medical Institutions regulations-2022 as amended from time to time, depending on his/her teaching experience in medical sciences,” reads NMC’s notification.
NMC has also warned the medical aspirants of fake allotment letters by NMC for the MBBS course and said that the commission never issues any such letter and it is to tarnish the image of the commission.
