NMC CBME Guidelines 2024 Released: Know Competency Based Medical Education Eligibility, Passing Criteria

NMC CBME guidelines 2024 have been released by NMC at nmc.org.in. Students can check Competency Based Medical Education Eligibility, Passing Criteria and key features, updated guidelines and marks distribution here. 

NMC CBME 2024

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) Curriculum Guidelines 2024. The NMC CBME guidelines 2024 aim to prepare the learners to have the necessary skills to provide healthcare to the needs of the nation and the world. The Regulations on Graduate Medical Education (GMER) 1997 was updated in 2023. Now, the existing regulations and guidelines have been updated as per the requirements in order to adapt to the changing demography, perceptions, values, and socio-economic context to name a few. As a part of CBME guidelines 2024,  a longitudinal program titled ‘AETCOM’ based on Attitude,
Ethics and Communication (AETCOM) competencies have been introduced. 

Coverage of CBME 2024 

The NMC CBME guidelines 2024 focus on the ethical and communication skills of the students. Further, the guidelines focus on national goals for Indian Medical Graduates (IMGs) to fulfil social obligations, and health policies, and create competent professionals to manage health problems. 

Eligibility Criteria for Professional Examinations

The eligibility criteria to qualify a professional examination shall also include the following: 

Particulars Details
Attendance
  • Theory: A minimum of 75% attendance.
  • Practical/Clinical: At least 80% attendance is necessary in practical and clinical sessions.
  • Subjects with multiple phases: At least 75% attendance in theory and 80% in practicals for each phase.
AETCOM Atleast 75% attendance in AETCOM and 80% attendance in family visits as part of the Family Adoption Program.

Note: Students lacking the 75% attendance criteria in electives would be restrained from appearing for the third Professional - Part II examination or NExT.

Marks Distribution

General Medicine
  • Phase II (50 marks)
  • Phase III Part I (50 marks)
  • Phase III Part II (100 marks) 
General Surgery
  • Phase II (25 marks)
  • Phase III Part I (25 marks)
  • Phase III Part II (150 marks) 
Forensic Medicine and Toxicology
  • 25 marks in Phase II
  • 75 marks in Phase III Part I

The passing criteria as per CBME 2024 is divided into two sections i.e. overall and section-wise. Students have to achieve a cumulative score of 50% in university-conduct exams (theory and practicals) while a minimum of 40% marks in theory and practicals shall be secured.
