NMC denies conducting NEET UG exam twice a year
NMC has sent a response to the All India Student's Union (AISU) on their request to conduct the NEET UG exam twice a year to reduce the stress of the aspirants. The Commission has straightaway denied the request. AISU said it is disappointing.
National Medical Commission (NMC) has sent a letter to the All India Student's Union (AISU) to respond on the possibility of conducting NEET UG exam twice a year starting this year. NMC has said that they have no such plans.
AISU tweeted, "Received response from NMC on our representation requesting NEET UG to be conducted twice a year. Their reply highlights financial challenges and burden on government resources. Response is disappointing."
In its letter to the Association, NMC said that the MBBS seats got filled during this one counselling and no seat remain vacant which needs of conducting the NEET UG exam twice. Also, the NEET exam involves a huge amount of money and other resources and thereby holding the said exam may put an undue burden on the government exchequer.
"In view of the above, it is not feasible for the Commission to hold this exam twice a year. However, NEET aspirants are now free to appear next year in exam as upper age bar has already been removed," reads the NMC's letter.
The background
Various students associations were trying to convince the Central government to conduct the NEET exam twice a year so that student doesn't need to wait for an entire year to appear in the crucial exam.
