As per the Commission’s rule, a minimum of 75% attendance of the total working days is mandatory for all faculty and senior resident doctors in a medical college.

National Medical Commission has issued a show cause notice to Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh (GMCH 32) for not abiding by the provisions of the Aadhar-enabled biometric attendance system (AEBAS).

As per the TOI report, all 20 departments of GMCH 32 have deficiencies in attendance.

Professor AK Attri, Director Principal of GMCH 32 said, “This notice has been issued to almost all the medical colleges in the country. We have held a meeting and directed the staff to follow the practice of the attendance.”

In January this year, NMC issued clarifications/directions regarding the implementation of Adhaar "Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) in all government and private medical colleges.

NMC notification said, "It is reiterated that NMC has not mandated the purchase of attendance machines from any specific vendor. The responsibility for procuring AEBAS compliant machines lies with the respective medical colleges, allowing them to choose a reliable vendor independently. The colleges must ensure the purchase of an adequate number of machines to guarantee the daily attendance of all users. NMC will not entertain any communication regarding maintenance issues related to biometric attendance machines. Additionally, colleges are required to ensure proper internet connectivity maintenance.”

"All the Medical Colleges are hereby informed that they must follow the UG-MSR 2023 and MSMER 2023 and fulfil the requirements accordingly, at their earliest. In the absence of these requirements or deficiency in any of the fields, a proposal for increase of seats/ renewal of permissions /recognition of MBBS degree/ continuation of Recognition shall not be considered and admissions for the Academic Year 2024-25 shall not be allowed," said another NMC’s notification.
