Odisha: Kalahandi Medical College to start MBBS admission this year

The Kalahandi government medical college and hospital (MCH) at Bhangabari in Bhawanipatna is built at an investment of more than INR 200 crore. It is expected to be functional from September-October, 2023. The state government is expected to start admission for 100 MBBS seats at the college this year.

The Kalahandi government medical college and hospital (MCH) at Bhangabari is likely to be functional this year and the state government is planning to start admission of 100 MBBS seats from the current year.

As per the TOI report, the infrastructure needed for the medical college has been developed on 35 acres of land at Bhangabari on the outskirts of Bhawanipatna.

Twenty-five buildings have been built on the campus at an estimated cost of INR 220 crore. 

The state currently has 1450 MBBS seats in 10 government medical colleges, 250 MBBS seats in two private medical colleges and 500 seats in two deemed to be universities.

The state's Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET) Dr Sachidananda Mohanty had recently said that the state government is planning to open medical colleges in all district headquarters in the state.

As per News Room Odisha, Rindo Majhi Government Medical College and Hospital, Bhawanipatna will start classes from this academic session. Two medical colleges will be set up in Jajpur and Kandhamal districts next year, he added.

The new medical colleges in the state will start the admission process after getting final permission from the Nation Medical Commission (NMC).
