Government doctors in Patna are on strike over their various demands including a 30% reservation in PG seats and stipend for DNB-sponsored seats, the emergency services and national programmes to continue during the strike.

Patna government doctors have discontinued the OPD services today, October 6, 2022. They went on to strike against the biometric attendance and also released a list of their demands that include a 30% reservation in PG seats and a stipend for DNB-sponsored seats. The protesting doctors have said that the emergency and national programmes will continue during the protest.

The biometric attendance was being implemented and the doctors are protesting against it, as reported by News 18 Bihar.

The doctors are trying to talk to the state government over their demands but alleged that the government is not listening to their demands. Following are the main demands of these protesting doctors - fixed hours of duty for residents, 30% reservation in PG seats, stipend for DNB-sponsored seats, dental surgeons should also get DSP, immediate actions for Ayush medical officers regular recruitment, residents to be posted in the district of their choice, NPA should be given, adequate steps should be taken for female medical professionals safety and if any unwanted incident occurs against the medical or paramedical staff, strict action should be taken against the responsible person. The doctors have also demanded residency facilities and security.

Doctors oppose Biometric Attendance

Bihar Health Association General Secretary Dr Ranjit Kumar said, "When the strike happened earlier, the government had assured to fulfil our demands. But so far no discussion has been held on this, nor has any decision been taken in this regard. The Sangh has also placed an 11-point demand from the government including the closure of biometric attendance. The union officials have warned that if the government does not accept our demands, then they will go on an indefinite strike and all the doctors will also boycott the OPD," as reported by Prabhat Khabar.
