PM Modi announces AIIMS Manipur; Amit Shah says Congress could not establish it in 15 years
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS in Manipur under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Scheme of the Government of India.
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS in Manipur, Union Home Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Shah took a jibe at the Congress and said that their party could not establish an AIIMS in Manipur in its 15 years of governance.
AIIMS Manipur is announced under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Scheme of the Government of India.
Prime Minister Modi said, “We are also planning to build an AIIMS in Manipur, this is the time of Atmanirbhar Bharat. This decade is the decade of development and progress and Manipur is moving fast in this direction today,” as reported by the Times now.
Currently, India has a total of 23 AIIMS campuses, out of which 19 are fully functional medical colleges and others are under construction. With this new addition, the AIIMS tally will reach 24.
Modi govt intends at least one medical college at each district
The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the need to upgrade the health infrastructure of the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi always emphasises providing the best health services even in the rural parts of the country to eliminate the disparity between the health services of urban and rural India.
Admission of medical aspirants to all AIIMS in India is done through the score of the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET). Candidates who qualify for the NEET exam are eligible to apply to AIIMS medical colleges across the country.
AIIMS Manipur was announced during a rally ahead of the elections in Manipur. The first phase of the polls in the state took place on February 28 and the second phase of polls will take place on March 5 and the votes will be counted on March 10. Earlier, there was also a discussion in the parliament to convert the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) to AIIMS.
