Prof SN Sankhwar joins as 27th Director of IMS, BHU

He will have a tenure of five years as Director. Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, is an AIIMS like institution and is in the process of upgrading its infrastructure, medical and research facilities and patient care. The institute is expected to get a fillip in its on-going efforts of excellence under the leadership of Prof. Sankhwar.

Prof. S. N. Sankhwar today assumed charge of the Director of the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU. Prof. Sankhwar is the 27th Director of the Institute. He was handed over the charge by officiating Director Prof. S. K. Singh in the presence of senior functionaries of the institute, Sir Sunderlal Hospital and Trauma Centre. 

Prof. Sankhwar said that taking the Institute of Medical Sciences to a new trajectory of growth and excellence will be his topmost priority. He said that IMS is a very prestigious institution of India and getting the opportunity to work with such a reputed one is a great honor for him. “I will do my best to further add to the glory of the institute and I am confident that with the support, guidance and cooperation of my colleagues in IMS, I will be able to do so”, added Prof. Sankhwar. 

He said that efforts will be made to further improve patient care services. 

Prof. K. K. Gupta, Medical Superintendent, Sir Sunderlal Hospital, Prof. Saurabh Singh, Professor In Charge, Trauma Centre, Prof. Ashok Chaudhary, Dean Research, Dr. Ankur Singh, Deputy Medical Superintendent, SSH, Dr. Neeraj Tripathi, Joint Registrar, IMS, Heads of Departments, senior Professors, doctors and staff were present during the joining of Prof. Sankhwar. 

Earlier, in the day Prof. Sankhwar visited Shri Vishwanath Temple at BHU campus and offered prayers. He was accompanied by his family and senior functionaries of Institute of Medical Sciences. He also met Rector Prof. V. K. Shukla at the Central Office. 

About Prof. Sankhwar

A renowned Urologist and Head of the Department of Urology, Kings George Medical University, Lucknow, Prof. Sankhwar was appointed the new Director of the Institute of Medical Sciences on September 9, 2023. Prof. Sankhwar was also functioning as the Chief Medical Superintendent of KGMU. He has vast administrative experience and is known for his medical and academic accomplishments. His areas of expertise are general urology, male infertility, endourology and female urology. At KGMU, he has been contributing in various academic and administrative capacities.
