Punjab NEET Counselling 2020: State dental colleges decrease BDS fee to fill vacant seats

There are almost nine medical colleges and fifteen dental colleges offering 1375 MBBS and 1140 BDS seats. In order to fill the seats, the colleges are mulling to lower their fees.

Punjab NEET Counselling 2020: Considering the number of vacant BDS seats left after Punjab NEET counselling Round 2 session, a few of the dental colleges in the state are now offering discounts on tuition fees to students. According to the reports, the state will conduct the third round of the counselling to fill the existing 88 MBBS and 479 BDS seats. As many as 970 applicants are eligible to take part in the Punjab NEET Mop-up Round. However, most of the candidates are MBBS aspirants, many dental college management fear that many seats may remain vacant.

In order to fill up the seats, the colleges decided to lower the BDS fee. Various reports suggest that there a total of 237 vacant seats under Government and 227 vacant seats under the management quota in Punjab. The official data suggest that after the first two rounds of Punjab NEET Counselling 2020, the dental colleges did not receive many admission requests to fill the available seats. There are 58 seats available ate Genesis Dental College, Ferozepur, whereas a total of 39 seats are vacant at Adesh Dental College, Bathinda.

These colleges suggest that the medical aspirants can seek admission under management quota but they will only need to pay fee fixed for government quota seats. The colleges usually charge Rs 2.20 lacs annually as tuition fee under management quota.
