Rajasthan: SMS Medical College appeals to protesting resident doctors to resume duty
Doctors in Rajasthan are protesting against the Right to Health Bill which was recently passed in the Assembly and gives the right to poeple of the state to avail free OPD and IPD services at all public health facilities. As per a report, now the administration of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College has asked its protesting resident doctors to resume work.
The doctors, mostly from private hospitals and nursing homes in Rajasthan, are protesting against the Right to Health Bill. The agitation is also being supported by some of the government hospitals' doctors. The latest is Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College's administration has appealed to its protesting doctors to resume work as they have shown enough solidarity with the private hospital doctors.
As per the TOI report, the administration said that the strike is now directly affecting the healthcare facilities at SMS Hospital, a government facility.
Rajasthan doctors' protest: More details
The protest is being supported by various doctors' associations. The doctors are highlighting many issues with the bill and they want amendments. However, Rajasthan health minister Parsadi Lal Meena said that there would be no amendment in the Right to Health Bill and everyone has to accept it.
After the bill is passed, now people of the state will be entitled to emergency treatment and care for an accidental emergency without prepayment of any fee or charges. They have the right to a free consultation, healthcare services, drugs, diagnostics, emergency transport, procedure and emergency care.
The bill was passed on Tuesday amid huge protests by the doctors and even now the doctors continued their protest.
