RG Kar Case: FAIMA Calls for Boycott of Medical Services Amid Bengal Medicos Protest from October 15

The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has released a dissemination notification on the nationwide boycott of elective services by resident doctors associations seeking justice in RG Kar doctor case in Kolkata from October 15, 2024

The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), a body representing Resident Doctors' Associations (RDAs) has released a notification for a Nationwide Boycott of Elective Services by Resident Doctors’ Associations (RDAs) from Tomorrow, i.e. October 15, 2024. The call for the boycott of elective services shall be conducted across India amid the ongoing fast-unto-death protest by the junior medics in West Bengal. Reportedly, the call for suspension of elective service was made after a meeting of FAIMA was held on Saturday. 

"While we went back to work at the assurance of the Honourable Chief Justice of India, our brothers and sisters in West Bengal have borne the brunt of this neglect alone, valiantly protesting for over 65 days. They have stood alone, fighting not just for themselves but for basic rights and issues which plague every resident doctor in this country." The official statement reads. 

RG Kar Case News: RDA's on Strike from October 15

The official FAIMA statement notifies that the association, along with other RDA of the states have unanimously decided on a nationwide strike after getting no response to the ultimatum for escalation given to the Chief Minister of West Bengal. 

FAIMA's latest notification informs that the strike of suspension of elective service has been postponed because of RDAs requesting FAIMA to postpone the day of initiation of the boycott of services to 15th October. 

"We have unanimously decided to postpone the commencement of the elective services boycott by one day to October 15, 2024, to closely monitor the outcomes of the emergency meeting with the Chief Secretary." The official statement reads. 

Emergency Services to Remain Functional 

The official notification notified that all RDAs have to ensure that emergency services remain functional 24/7. The letter read, "However, we request all RDAs and associations to keep emergency facilities open 24x7 since patients who need our urgent service must not suffer."

Nationwide Doctor Strike: Doctors Unwell

Reportedly, the Bengal junior doctors' fast-unto-death has entered the 10th day i.e. from October 5 and is ongoing, with a need for justice for the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital doctor, who was brutally murdered after sexual assault. As per the media reports, four doctors have been hospitalised due to ongoing fasting and they have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Kolkata Doctor Case Update: Emergency Meeting Today 

FAIMA has shared that after the nationwide pressure created by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA), the Chief Secretary of West Bengal has called for an emergency meeting with major medical associations in West Bengal, scheduled for the afternoon of October 14, 2024.
