Rohilkhand Medical College and Hospital is witnessing protests by its interns. The allegation is that the college administration is asking for a huge amount from them by forcing them to live in a hostel and have also threatened the interns that they will stop their internship if they will not deposit the amount demanded by the college.
As per the interns, "Our college administration is forcing us to live in a hostel illegally by which they are charging extra basic amount from us, which is against NMC rules. We are being forced to deposit the principal amount of lakhs of rupees which is much higher than the ratios taken in previous years."
"We have been threatened to stop our internship and take police action if we don't give the demanded amount and protest in the college. We intern doctors are peacefully sitting on dharna in our college since 5th April 2023 and no one is ready to listen to us even after telling our views to the college administration. There is no such rule of government and NMC in which intern doctors have been asked to stay in hostels forcibly and charge arbitrary hostel amount," said the interns, as tweeted by All India Medical Students' Association.
