Tamil Nadu health minister Ma Subramanian will be meeting Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya tomorrow to urge him for the expedition of AIIMS Madurai construction work.

While All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Madurai is all set to conduct the classes for the first batch of 50 MBBS students in a hybrid model from Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Ramanathapuram starting from April 4, health minister Ma Subramanian will be meeting Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya tomorrow in Delhi and will urge him to expedite the construction work of its buildings.

Office of Madurai AIIMS tweet reads, "Classes for first year students at AIIMS Medical College, Madurai will start from April 4. Classes of AIIMS Medical College will be temporarily held at Ramanathapuram Government Medical College - AIIMS Administration, Madurai"

Ma Subramanian to urge approval for other medical colleges in TN

"There is just a compound wall in place of a medical college. They wanted to start classes in art and science college or in JIPMER. We offered them space at the new college in Ramanathapuram. Now, we want the Centre to expedite construction and approve another AIIMS in Coimbatore," said Ma Subramanian, as reported by TOI.

The first announcement about AIIMS Madurai was made in 2015 and the foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the year 2019.

The health minister will also urge the Centre to approve six more medical colleges in Tamil Nadu at Perambalur, Mayiladuthurai, Tirupathur, Ranipet, Kancheepuram and Kallakurichi.

He distributed the general relief funds to the families of healthcare workers who lost their lives to Covid 19 while on duty. The state government announced INR 25 lakh to the frontline workers who died due to Covid infection during the pandemic, as reported by DT Next.
