More details of eight new medical colleges in Telangana

Till 2014, the state had only three government medical colleges. These eight colleges were established without the Centre's financial assistance as the Union government didn't sanction a single government medical college in Telangana in the last eight years. Telangana government also upgraded the adjoining district hospitals and attached them to the new medical colleges, as reported by Telangana Today.

These colleges are built at a cost of INR 4,080 crore and have added 1,150 additional MBBS seats in the seat matrix of the state. The admissions in these colleges have been completed recently.

With the launching of these medical colleges, the number of MBBS seats has increased to 2,790 from 850 in 2014. The PG medical seats have gone up to 1,122 from 531 in 2014. The new medical facilities will provide services in as many as 35 different departments.

As per the Indian Express report, every medical college will have 449 doctors and over 600 paramedical supporting staff.
