Studying in Telangana's private medical colleges is going to be more expensive now as the state government has issued two Government Order (GO) permitting unaided non-minority medical and dental institutions to hike tuition fees.

Telangana private medical colleges tuition fee increases

The candidates seeking admission to medical colleges in Telangana must know that the state government has issued two Government Order (GO) that allowed the private non-minority medical and dental institutions to increase their tuition fee by up to 99%.

There are 23 private medical colleges in Telangana, out of which eight colleges offer MBBS and BDS courses. The department of health has issued orders increasing the fee for many courses in some of the private medical colleges in the state. The State Health Secretary has issued GO 41 and GO 43 that permits private colleges to increase the tuition fee from 72% to 99%. The increased fee structure will come into effect from the 2021-22 academic year.

As per the sources in the state health department, the state government has taken this decision as per the advice of the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC).

The colleges have not increased the fees for those students joining under various quotas. Till now, for these students, the fee has been around INR 60,000 a year.

The decision to increase the fee has been taken after private medical colleges have submitted their expense information to the TAFRC. The private dental and medical colleges do not charge capitation fees as per the medical health department orders and the government will not allow making extra collections in different forms. The fee fixed for this year would be applicable to the students and they will be charged for the prescribed fee for four and a half years.

The colleges where the fee has been increased are MNR Medical College in Mahbubnagar, Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences in Narketpally, Kamineni Academy in LB Nagar, and Chalmeda Anand Rao Medical College in Karimnagar district.

The students are now worried about the increased fees in private medical colleges and they are saying that the increased fee structure violates the court order which had directed the medical colleges to implement the old fee structure of 2016.
