Telangana govt approves 8 new medical colleges

In a meeting conducted by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on July 31, he said that the state government has sanctioned 8 new medical colleges and with this, the state will be the first state to have a medical college in each district.

“This achievement is a result of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s persistent efforts to address the inadequate medical facilities and the loss of lives due to lack of timely medical treatment. Recognizing the hardships faced by patients, especially in remote areas, and the limited access to medical education, CM KCR initiated the decentralization of medical services after the formation of Telangana. Over the past nine years, the government has successfully established 29 medical colleges, in addition to the existing five colleges before the formation of the state,” Health Minister T. Harish Rao said in a media statement, as reported by The Rahnuma.

The government on Wednesday issued orders for setting up eight new government medical colleges in the state. Each of these colleges and government general hospitals will have an intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats and will come up at Maheshwaram in Rangareddy district, Yadadri in Yadadri Bhongir district, Medak in Medak district, Narsampet in Warangal district, Mulugu in Mulugu district, Narayanpet in Narayanpet district, Gadwal in Jogulamba Gadwal district, and Qutbullapur in Medchal Malkajgiri district.

With 800 new MBBS seats in each college, the total number of MBBS seats in the state will increase to about 10,000.
