Telangana HC refuses to stay transfer of medical students of TRR, Mahavir College

While hearing the plea by TRR College and Mahavir College asking the court to halt the transfer of students, the Telangana High Court refused to stay the transfer of medical students whose admissions had been cancelled by the National Medical Commission (NMC) in Telangana.

The TRR College's counsel argued that the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC does not have the power to cancel the permission granted. If the students are shifted at this stage when classes began in January, they stand to lose, as reported by Indian Express.

Counsel for NMC Goranta Pujitha submitted to the court that major deficiencies were found in the TRR and Mahavir College.

The Background

In May this year, NMC cancelled the medical admissions in three private medical colleges in Telangana including MNR Medical College and Hospital, Sangareddy, Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences, Vikarabad, and TRR Institute of Medical Sciences, Patancheru based on a surprise inspection done by the NMC team in March. The cancellation order was sent after the admission process was complete.

The surprise inspection was carried out at 12 private medical colleges under the Union Health Ministry. A team of 3-5 doctors inspected these colleges and the inspection focussed on the patient inflow in the hospitals attached to the medical colleges.
