Telangana State Medical Council should conduct election in three months: SC

The Supreme Court has given the judgement regarding conducting elections to Telangana State Medical Council in SLP filed by the Govt of Telangana against the High Court of Telangana judgement for conducting elections. The top court said that the Telangana State Medical Council is expected to conduct an election in terms of the impugned judgement of the high court within three months from May 16, 2023.

"Mr V Giri, learned Senior Counsel has drawn the attention of this court to Section 100 and 101 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 to point out that interpretation of these two provisions in so far as the adaptation impugned before the High Court, is to be considered in the present proceedings," said the court.

"Since arguments are also advanced by the learned counsel for the petitioner for an interim order, we have perused paragraphs 50 of the Division Bench Judgement of the high court and the consequential direction issued for the holding of election and disbanding of the interim council. Looking at those, we are disinclined to pass any interim order staying the operation of the impugned direction. In consequence, the Telangana State Medical Council is expected to conduct an election in terms of the impugned judgement of the high court within three months from today as the time stipulated by the high court has already expired," added the court.
