The state is all set to start nine more medical colleges. In the budget presented by Finance Minister T Harish Rao in the Assembly on Monday, the state allocated INR 12,161 Crore to establish another nine new Medical Colleges at Nirmal, Asifabad, Bhoopalpally, Jangaon, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Khammam, Sircilla, and Vikarabad.

On Monday, Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao presented the budget 2023-24. The state allocated INR 12,161 Crore to establish another nine new medical colleges at Nirmal, Asifabad, Bhoopalpally, Jangaon, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Khammam, Sircilla, and Vikarabad. This will increase the number of medical colleges in the state to 26.

Apart from adding more medical colleges, the state also proposed to establish nursing colleges in all districts attached to the medical colleges during 2023, as reported by The Hans India.

The state government also allocated INR 200 crore for the expansion of KCR Nutrition kits. These kits were launched in nine districts of Telangana where iron deficiency was noticed among the women.

The government also proposed to start 100 new Basti Dawakhanas in the towns. The government earmarked INR 26,831 crore for agriculture and allied department.

While talking about the achievements, he said that the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) has been 43 per one lakh deliveries. The development indicators are that MMR should not exceed 70 per lakh deliveries. 

The government had started 33 palliative care centres for patients with cancer, AIDS, and other chronic diseases, who were in the final stages of their lives. Out of the 168 centres in the entire country, one-fifth of them are located in Telangana State, he said. 

Deliveries have also increased in government hospitals from 30.5% in 2015-16 to 61% now. T Harish Rao said that the government would complete the construction of Health City in Warangal with international standards by this financial year. Construction of a Super Specialty Hospital at an estimated expenditure of INR 1,100 crore with a capacity of 2,000 beds was going on at a fast pace, he added. Moreover, the government is bringing up four super speciality hospitals at four corners of the city with INR 2,679 Crore.
