After the members of the Assembly protested and staged a walkout from Lok Sabha recently against Governor RN Ravi's decision to return the NEET exemption bill to the speaker, now the government has decided to once again send the bill to the Governor.

In a meeting of parties in Tamil Nadu which had the members of Assembly, it was unanimously resolved to send the NEET exemption bill back to Governor RN Ravi for getting the Presidential assent. The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister MK Stalin where it was decided to convene a special sitting of the Assembly and get the NEET exemption bill adopted again and send it to the Governor so that the bill gets forwarded to the President of India for his consent. The opposition, AIADMK and BJP did not take part in the meeting but AIADMK announced its support to all legal initiatives for eliminating NEET in the state.

Last week, Governor RN Ravi had returned the anti-NEET bill to speaker M Appavu instead of forwarding it to the President.

On Sunday, Stalin said, “Education has been denied to people for centuries. They have had access to education in the last few decades as a result of many struggles. Education offers them a qualification and status. NEET is a new version of the conspiracy to deny education to people because of their status.”

“We are under no compulsion to politicise NEET. The BJP government at the Centre is pursuing a lot of anti-people policies and they need to be opposed. It is not just NEET. We will oppose all the policies and schemes that are against Tamil Nadu and its people,” as reported by The Hindu.
