Ukraine returned medical students protest in Chennai
Worried about their uncertain future and anxious due to the government's unclear stand on this matter, many Ukraine returned medical students staged a protest in Chennai.
The challenges for Ukraine returned medical students refuse to die down, they have escaped the war-torn country Ukraine but now their future remains uncertain as most of them are attending online classes from India and are not able to attend their clinical training. Many such students have demonstrated a protest in Chennai and demanded the state and Central governments allow them to complete their medical education in India.
The Ukraine MBBS Student's Parents Association (UMSPA) had gathered these students and during the protest, Ukraine returned students and their parents held a signature campaign and carried placards demanding to be allowed to complete education in India.
As per the Indian Express report, the protesting students said that the Central government had initially assured them of necessary arrangements within two months of their return but the government has not done anything concrete so far. The students are demanding to be allowed to study in Indian medical colleges.
Latest on education of Ukraine returned medical students
West Bengal government has accommodated nearly seventy-seven first year Ukraine returned Indian medical students to 17 medical colleges in the state. Supreme Court has also directed the National Medical Commission (NMC) to make a scheme so that Ukraine returned medical students can complete their clinical training in India. Now, NMC has asked about the health ministry's view on this, and the ministry is expected to hold a meeting on this soon.
