Earlier, WBUHS scheduled the PG exams to be conducted from May 6, 2021.

The West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) released an official notification stating that it has postponed the Postgraduate Examinations for Broad Specialty Courses (MD/MS/Diploma). Earlier, WBUHS scheduled the PG exams to be conducted from May 6, 2021. According to the official notice, in reference to the Communication of the Director of Medical Education to the Officiating Vice-Chancellor, WBUHS and NMC Advisory for all Medical colleges regarding Final Year Postgraduate students, it is hereby notified to all concerned Students/Teachers/Guardians, “the Examination scheduled to start from May 6, 2021, is being deferred for a period of two months or till further orders, considering the present Covid-19 pandemic situation.”

The official notice released by DME communication reads, "In respect to the discussion and the approval of the Higher authorities, the Post Graduate Medical Examination conducted by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences(WBUHS), is to be deferred for a period of 2 (Two) months or till further orders, considering the present pandemic COVID-I 9 situation."

Meanwhile, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced that the duties performed by medical interns for COVID-19 management will be treated as a compulsory internship. The decision came following the announcements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office regarding the shortage of human resources in the fight against COVID-19. In the meeting, the officials decided to include medical aspirants in the COVID-19 duties. Another significant decision that emerged from the same meeting was the postponement of postgraduate medical entrance exams, i.e. NEET PG 2021, by another four months.
