Modi inaugurated nine new medical colleges at Siddharthanagar, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Jaunpur, Etah and Deoria districts.
The number of medical seats in Uttar Pradesh has doubled in the past four years, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi while inaugurating nine new medical colleges in the state. Modi talking about the achievements of the BJP led NDA government in the poll-bound state said that in the past seven years more than 60,000 medical seats have been added in the country.
Prime Minister Modi today inaugurated as many as nine medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh during his visit to the Siddharthnagar district. Modi also launched Pradhan Mantri Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana (PMASBY) – a pan-India health scheme to boost the healthcare infrastructure of the country.
The nine new medical colleges would come up at Siddharthanagar, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Jaunpur, Etah and Deoria districts.
60,000 medical seats added
PM said: “Before 2014, the medical seats in our country were less than 90 thousand. In the last seven years, 60 thousand new medical seats have been added in the country. Here in Uttar Pradesh too, till 2017 there were only 1900 medical seats in government medical colleges. Whereas in the government of double engine, more than 1900 seats have been increased in the last four years.”
Earlier on October 16, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath informed that PM Modi will inaugurate multiple medical colleges in the state, including the newly constructed Siddharthanagar Medical College named after Jan Sangh founder leader Madhav Prasad Tripathi.
“With the creation of 9 new medical colleges, about two and a half thousand new beds have been created, new employment opportunities have been created for more than 5 thousand doctors and paramedics,” said Modi.
Taking a dig at the opposition, Modi said: “What did the government in Delhi do 7 years ago and the government here in UP 4 years ago, what did they do in Purvanchal? Those who were in the government earlier, they used to sit somewhere after announcing the dispensary, some small hospital for votes.”
Uttar Pradesh will go for assembly elections early next year.
Eight medical institutions have been sanctioned under the centrally sponsored scheme, which aims to set up colleges attached with district or referral hospitals, while one institution inaugurated in Jaunpur has been made operational by the Adityanath-led state government using its own resources.
