Why 18% GST on DNB Course Fee: SC to NMC, NBE
The Supreme Court has recently issued notice to NMC and NBE regarding 18 per cent GST on their DNB course fee.
While considering Diplomate of National Board (DNB) doctors plea challenging 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the DNB course fee, the apex court issued notice to the National Board of Examinations (NBE) and National Medical Commission (NMC). The next court hearing is on September 3.
The DNB doctors Association had filed a plea in the supreme court challenging the 18% GST on DNB course fees. The Association also submitted the notification of the Union Ministry of Finance in the Department of Revenue, which states that GST would be exempted for the courses conducted by NBE. The plea also sought direction for NMC to conduct practical theory exams of two consecutive sessions December 2020 and June 2021 with a gap of at least one month.
DNB is one of the best Post-Graduate programs in the field of medicine, which is equivalent to MD or MS. The program is divided into DNB in Broad Specialities and DNB Super Specialists. After completing the course, the students can work as medical specialists or faculty lecturers in medical colleges.
