Mumbai School Reopening: The government of Maharashtra allowed the reopening of schools in Mumbai at 100% capacity after conducting a review meeting to analyse COVID-19 cases. Considering the declining cases of the novel coronavirus in the city, State Minister Aaditya Thackeray allowed the reopening of schools will full capacity. However, reports suggest that there are various parents who are not happy with the decision and are demanding a hybrid mode of learning in schools.
The review meeting was conducted on February 25, 2022. Following the meeting, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, BMC allowed schools to function offline completely, for the first time in two years. Before this, while the state reopened schools but classes were being conducted in hybrid mode. Despite asking students to return offline, many schools and junior colleges in the city have not completely done away with the idea of online classes and are still giving their students that option.
Many schools informed that they are keeping the option for online classes because of the resistance parents have shown towards sending their wards to school for offline classes. Meanwhile, the government is yet to take a decision on whether examinations will be conducted online or via offline mode.
The government is also yet to take a decision of discontinuing hybrid mode in the rest of Maharashtra. As of now, only Mumbai Schools have been directed to stop online classes and reopen offline at 100% attendance. During the reopening, all schools and junior colleges will maintain COVID-19 protocol such as wearing masks, social distancing and regular sanitising.
