New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is all set to upgrade the Day Time Secondary School for Adult Women in East Kidwai Nagar up to Class 12.  New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice Chairman Satish Upadhyay announced the Council’s decision on May 4, 2022. Established in 1990-91, the school provides facilities for restarting the education of dropout students in any Class. Currently, the school offers education until Class 10.

Upgradation till Class 12 to benefit female students

Talking about the initiative, NDMC Vice Chairman said that the objective behind the establishment of the school is to make facilities related to education available for drop-out girls belonging to weaker sections of society. The school facilitates education, especially for those who leave their studies due to family circumstances. “Several females start jobs to supplement the income of their family, girls whose parents cannot afford their further studies or they are supposed to look after their siblings," said Upadhyay added.

The sole motive of the school is to make sure that such females continue their education. Authorities upgraded the school to Class 10 level from session 1994-95. It has now decided to upgrade it to Class 12. The school provides educational facilities to those who have already undertaken employment but desire to improve their educational qualifications, Upadhyay said.

This year, the school enrolled a total of 242 students. Class-wise enrolment data as of April 2022 reveals that 66 students are studying in the age group of 15 to 20 years whereas three students are studying in the age group of 20 plus. Talking about the benefits that will come along with the upgradation, Upadhyay said asserted the importance of education. He said, "Learning is a continuous process and the true learner always looks for avenues to learn from anybody and everybody. Upgrading the school till Class 12 will benefit more such students.”
