NMC grants provisional relaxation for medical college teaching faculties recruitment norms

National Medical Commission (NMC) has extended the period for receiving requisite MET and BMR qualification for teaching faculties' appointment, confirmation and promotion by one year.
In the wake of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced a provisional relaxation on acquiring requisite qualifications for appointment, confirmation and promotion of the teaching faculties to the posts of Professors, Additional Professors and Associate Professors in medical colleges under NMC.
Due to the pandemic situation, teaching faculties are facing inconvenience in attending the mandatory MET (Medical Education Technology) and BMR (Biomedical Research) workshops and hence NMC has extended the period for acquiring the MET and BMR qualification by one year. This relaxation is applicable till December 31, 2022.
NMC's notification reads, "In view of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, it has been brought to our notice that inconvenience is being faced by the teaching faculty of various institutes in attending mandatory MET and BMR workshops, hence it has been decided to extend the period for acquiring requisite (Medical Education Technology) and BMR (Biomedical Research) qualification for the purpose of appointment, confirmation and promotion by 01 (one) year. This is a one-time relaxation/waiver applicable till 31st December 2022. This will be applicable for the teaching posts of Professors, Additional Professors and Associate Professors in Medical Colleges, under National Medical Commission."
In medical colleges, the appointment of faculty and promotion norms and managed under Teachers Eligibility Qualifications (TEQ) Regulations, 2021. These norms standardise the recruitment of faculty in all medical colleges and also specify the number of courses that the doctors need to qualify to be eligible for the posts. It also specifies the number of patterns including who can be classified as a medical teacher."
