The Odisha government has announced that it has decided to invest INR 1,500 crore in three years to complete the revamping of the Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR) in the capital city Bhubaneswar.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also approved the master plan for the revamping work of the OUTR, earlier known as the College of Engineering and Technology, CET. Odisha government aims to develop the university at par with the Indian Institutes of Technologies (IITs) in the country.
The College of Engineering and Technology, CET was established in 1981 and it was shifted to a 100-acre permanent campus at Ghatikia in 2001.

As per the official, INR 1,000 crore will be spent on the institution in the first year. At present 4,600 students are enrolled at OUTR and it will be developed to accommodate about 10,000 students in the coming five years.

While reviewing the available infrastructure, management, and teaching facilities at the institute, Patnaik advised the concerned officials to develop it as one of the leading institutions in the field of technical education and research. The government also announced that a center of excellence will also be set up in the University to offer new courses on the new age technology and to promote human resource development and inter-departmental research programmes.

The university will also partner with national and international level institutions to provide quality teaching and research, the officials said, as reported by TimesNow. An Incubation Center will also be developed in collaboration with various leading industries to encourage Startup culture and entrepreneurial spirit among the students.
