Odisha School Reopening: The government of Odisha has decided to reopen schools for Classes 8 to 10, colleges and universities in the state on February 7. Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra informed that the government took the decision considering the declining number of COVID-19 cases across the state. The minister further informed that for students of kindergarten to Class 7, schools in Odisha will reopen on February 14.
However, attending offline classes is not mandatory. Students will have the option to attend the classes offline, online or in a hybrid mode, he added. Schools have been asked not to force students to attend offline classes. Short-term training and skill development training centers will also reopen from February 7, Mohapatra said. The government has also allowed the reopening of the hostels across the state considering the improving pandemic situation.
Odisha announced the closure of educational institutions on January 10 in view of the third wave of the pandemic. In order to ensure a smooth transition of the teaching-learning process from online to offline, the chief secretary suggested that educational institutions to hold bridge courses, short-term courses, doubt-clearing classes and other such sessions to make up for the study losses incurred by the students.
"If required, the institutions may shorten the summer vacation," he said. Meanwhile, the government has also decided to promote students based on an alternate assessment method. Mohapatra said students of KG to Class 9 will be promoted to the next class on the basis of classroom assessment, while students of Classes 10 and 12 will have to appear in exams conducted by the respective boards.
