The task force advised all the students, teaching and non-teaching staff to continue to follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour within the campus. All the stakeholders were advised to avoid organising large gatherings and be extra vigilant.

Considering the rise in Omicron cases across the world, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) task force has warned the students from not putting their guards down within the campus. While raising concerns over super spreader events reported in few closed campuses, the University's task force has issued advisory.

The task force said that there are unconfirmed reports that a campus within the vicinity of Hyderabad Metropolitan Urban Development Authority – outskirts of twin cities -- has also been affected with a super spreader event.
“It is alarming that many stakeholders seem to have discontinued Covid-appropriate behaviour on the campus. Also alarming is that the campus seems to have returned to working as if during pre-Covid 19 times,” read the advisory.
The task force advised all the students, teaching and non-teaching staff to continue to follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour within the campus. All the stakeholders were advised to avoid organising large gatherings and be extra vigilant. The university appealed to all stakeholders to get fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and consult the healthcare center in case of any symptoms or emergencies.
“The campus may be restrained by the state and central government authorities if we let our guard down. The university cannot afford a super spreader event that will again affect our academic and research activities,” stated the advisory.

On 26 November 2021, WHO designated the variant B.1.1.529 a variant of concern, named Omicron, on the advice of WHO’s Technical Advisory Group on Virus Evolution (TAG-VE). This decision was based on the evidence presented to the TAG-VE that Omicron has several mutations that may have an impact on how it behaves, for example, on how easily it spreads or the severity of illness it causes.
