The Minister recalled that during his earlier term as Chief Minister, he had insisted that the NIT allotted for Puducherry shall be set up in Karaikal only. The six projects will be built at an investment of INR 115 crore, he said, adding that the government is keen to encourage the institute as it will help aspirants of technological courses too.

Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangawamy laid the foundation stone for six projects at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Karaikal. The project will include the building of students hostels, staff quarters and playgrounds that will in turn help students joining the institute, he said.

The Minister recalled that during his earlier term as Chief Minister, he had insisted that the NIT allotted for Puducherry shall be set up in Karaikal only. The six projects will be built at an investment of INR 115 crore, he said, adding that the government is keen to encourage the institute as it will help aspirants of technological courses too.

The Chief Minister said that the Puducherry administration will always support the development of NIT, he said, adding that Jipmer, Karaikal will soon be started and more students will be able to pursue medical education. 

"Laid Foundation stone at NIT #Puducherry in Karaikal Campus for Hostels, Amenities centre, Quarters ,Indoor complex & sports fields. Alongside CM, Minister, NIT Director, CPWD Director & Faculties. These facilities to enrich on the lines of NEP 2020 for future learners," Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan tweeted. Earlier, the Lt Governor, the Chief Minister along with the Transport Minister participated in the annual 'Mangani festival' in Karaikal Ammayyar temple and offered prayers to the presiding deity.

Puducherry Lt. Governor Tamilisai further said that the central, as well as the Puducherry government together, will ensure the development of the Karaikal region. Karaikal is the hub of spirituality and will be a hub of education too, she said.
