Puducherry’s first state university gets VC
S Mohan from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has been appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of Puducherry Technological University for a period of five years.
S Mohan from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has been appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of Puducherry Technological University. He has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor of the university for a period of five years. Mohan belongs to the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. He joined IIT Madras as a lecturer in 1987 and become a professor in 1991.
The Pondicherry Engineering College was upgraded into Puducherry Technological University only recently. According to a release from Secretary to Lt Governor Abhijit Vijay Choudhary, the search committee constituted on January 20, 2021, had unanimously recommended a panel of three names of suitable candidates in alphabetical order for selection to the post of Vice-Chancellor of Puducherry Technological University.
The release said the Lt Governor carefully considered the report and after due diligence in giving weightage to each of the report selected Mohan as the first Vice-Chancellor of the university.
Puducherry Technological University is the first state university of the Union Territory of Puducherry which has been constituted by upgrading Pondicherry Engineering College established in 1986. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the Puducherry Technological University on the Pondicherry Engineering College campus in September this year. The President had termed the establishment of the university as an important milestone in the history of technical education of the union territory.
