The Minister informed that out of the total beneficiary students, INR 50.72 crore has been released for 8,45,429 girls, INR 32.75 crore for 5,45,993 boys belonging to the scheduled caste category and INR 9.46 crore for 1,57,770 boys of BPL (below poverty line) category.

Punjab Government to distribute free school uniforms to 15.49 lakh govt school students

Punjab Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer has announced that his department will distribute free uniforms to 15,49,192 government school students of Class 1 to 8 for the academic session 2022-23. He further stated that a grant of INR 92.95 crore has been granted by the education department for the same. 

The Minister informed that out of the total beneficiary students, INR 50.72 crore has been released for 8,45,429 girls, INR 32.75 crore for 5,45,993 boys belonging to the scheduled caste category and INR 9.46 crore for 1,57,770 boys of BPL (below poverty line) category.

The School Management Committees (SMCs) will distribute the free uniforms. The SMCs will purchase uniforms at the rate of INR 600 per student. The minister instructed education officials to not purchase uniforms from any particular shop.

Earlier, the Punjab Government had announced new dates for the summer vacations. As per the revised schedule, summer holidays in Punjab government schools will begin on June 1 and end on June 30, 2022. Earlier, the vacations were scheduled to begin on May 14, 2022.

Punjab Government has also decided to continue offline classes for students until May 31, 2022. In the latest notification, the government had announced that it has decided to follow the pattern of previous years and announced that offline classes would be held from May 15, 2022, to May 31, 2022.

Earlier, considering the heatwave, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had announced Summer Vacations in Punjab Schools from May 14. However, now the dates of summer vacation has now been revised.
