Punjab government to probe scams related to PIMS

The Punjab government has held the 37th governing body meeting of the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), as confirmed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

His tweet reads, "37th governing body meeting of PIMS (Punjab Institute of Medical Science) convened. Surprised to know that the previous government did not hold even a single meeting in 6 years, many scams have also come to the fore...we are going to investigate this..."

PIMS is a major health-care project under PPP

The project was handed over to the PIMS Charitable Society. Former Akali minister Surjit Singh Rakhra was heading the PIMS Charitable Society, which was allotted the institution on a 99-year lease by the then Akali government in 2009-10.

As per sources, in 2014 the society handed over PIMS to a private chain of hospitals, without following the due legal procedure. “The basic infrastructure that had to be built by the consortium was not built and the lease money to be paid to the government was erratic. As a result, the norms of the agreement were breached,” said an official, as reported by Tribune India.

PIMS offers a wide range of medical facilities across multiple fields of medical sciences including Medicine, Medical Oncology, General & Laparoscopic Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Psychiatry, OBC, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Pulmonology and Dentistry.
