Punjab govt approves 25 MBBS seats in GMC Patiala and Faridkot
To strengthen the state's healthcare facilities, the Punjab government on Monday approved 25 additional MBBS seats in the Government Medical Colleges of Patiala and Faridkot.
Punjab Medical Education and Research Minister Chetan Singh Jauremajra said during a review meeting that the Punjab government, on Monday, has given its consent to create 25 additional MBBS seats each in the Government Medical Colleges of Patiala and Faridkot.
He said that the state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann aims to improve the health and education sector which are the core areas of concern. He also added that persistent efforts are underway to open medical colleges in every district of the state.
The cabinet minister also directed the authorities to start classes in the medical colleges of Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala and Sangrur from the next academic year.
He directed further to ameliorate the functioning of hospitals of medical colleges, he ordered to ensure qualitative health care facilities so that people will not face any hardships to get these services and to provide free medicines to the patients undergoing treatment in the hospitals of the medical colleges as soon as possible, as reported by Punjab News Express.
Punjab medical colleges details
At present, there are 12 medical colleges in the state including four government, six private and one under PPP mode and one Centre-run. Through these medical colleges, a total of 1,750 MBBS seats are offered in the state, 800 MBBS seats in government medical colleges and 950 in private medical colleges.
There are three under-construction medical colleges which are being built under the centrally-sponsored program. Moreover, the state has a total of 14 dental colleges including two government and 12 private dental colleges, 15 Ayush colleges, and 257 nursing colleges.
