This decision regarding the extension of the closure will be applicable to schools, colleges and all other educational institutions including coaching classes with exception of Medical and Nursing colleges that operate in the state.

Punjab Schools, College Reopening: The government of Punjab has announced its decision to extend the closure of schools and colleges in the state by another week considering the ongoing pandemic situation in the state. According to the decision taken by the government, all educational institutions in the state will remain closed for physical lectures until February 8, 2022. This decision regarding the extension of the closure will be applicable to schools, colleges and all other educational institutions including coaching classes with exception of Medical and Nursing colleges that operate in the state.

Meanwhile, in order to curb educational loss due to closure, schools and educational institutions have received directions to continue online classes for all the students as per the academic schedule released earlier.

The government conducted a review meeting in order to analyse the COVID-19 situation in the state. The decision to extend the closure of schools and colleges in Punjab was taken by the State Government in a recent review meeting. According to the government, the decision regarding the extension of the closure is based on the rapid rise in the COVID-19 case count and the overall case positivity rate in Punjab. In addition to extension in the closure of educational institutions, the state government has also continued imposition of several other curbs and restrictions to curb COVID-19 spread in the state.

The restrictions include the maximum gathering of 500 people allowed at indoor venues and 1000 people allowed at outdoor events. This will be subject to a maximum 50 per cent operational capacity of the event venue. Functionality of all cinema halls, spa, malls, restaurants, etc. at 50 per cent capacity.  Night Curfew has been imposed from 10 PM to 5 AM. Limitations on non-essential movements. All social and public gatherings allowed in strict compliance with COVID-19 guidelines and precautionary measures.
