Recognizing MBBS in Hindi not feasible: NMC
NMC has clarified that recognizing MBBS in Hindi is not feasible, as per media reports.
Recently, Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang had announced about providing medical education in Hindi. Now, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has confirmed that they have not received any such plans from any state government and this is also not feasible.
On the occasion of the Hindi Diwas, Madhya Pradesh Education Minister had said that soon the state would establish a committee to decide on preparing the Hindi medical syllabus.
As reported by TNIE, Aruna V Vanikar, the President of the Undergraduate Medical Education Board of NMC has clarified, if any state government has such a plan, it will not be recognized by NMC.
She said, "The rules do not approve teaching teaching-learning MBBS in any other language other than English and there is no plan to change the existing norms. If any state government goes ahead and introduces such a course, it will not be recognized by the NMC"
As per media reports, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were considering providing medical education in Hindi. In Uttar Pradesh, the state government had received the proposal from the President of Hindi Bhasha Sansthan.
The New Indian Express also reported that NMC has clarified that the idea of providing medical education in Hindi is not feasible and no state government has approached them with such a proposal.
NMC has made it clear, as per rules, it will not recognize MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) courses being offered in Hindi. Moreover, it is not planning to amend the rules for allowing medical courses in any other language except English.
