The commission has extended the new regulations for Foreign Medical Graduate's which was issued on November 18, 2021 to the students impacted by the Russia-Ukraine War.
National Medical Commission has released a notification stated that all Indian MBBS who have returned to India from warn-hit Ukraine to complete their mandatory 12-month internship in India. The circular was released by NMC on its official website; i.e. nmc.org.in.
The commission has extended the new regulations for Foreign Medical Graduate's which was issued on November 18, 2021 to the students impacted by the Russia-Ukraine War. The FMGE - Foreign Medical Graduate Examination or also known as the NeXT exam, is an exit exam medical students must take in order to be able to pursue their postgraduation in Medicine and become eligible to get a license to practice medicine in India.
The Regulations of November 18, 2021 are now not applicable to -
- FMG's who have acquired a foreign medical degree or primary qualification before Nov 18, 2021
- Candidates who joined undergraduate medical education in foreign institutions before Nov 18, 2021
- FMG's who are specifically exempted by the Central government through official notification
The notification further stated that some FMGs have also been unable to complete their internships due to "compelling situations like COVID-19 and War, etc.". Taking this into consideration, FMG's "application to complete the remaining part of their internships in India is considered eligible. The same may be processed by the State Medical Councils provided that the candidates must have cleared FMGE before applying for completing of internship in India".
The commission has also stated in the guidelines issued that "no amount/fee is charged by the medical college from the FMGs for permitting them to do their internship". The stipend and other facilities for FMG's will be in accordance to what Indian Medical Graduates receive.
