Russia-Ukraine war: Over 20,000 Indian students in Ukraine, Govt facilitating safe return
A special flight from Kyiv landed this morning at IGI Airport in New Delhi Airport, with 182 Indian citizens, including students.
India is facilitating the safe return of its citizen including students from Ukraine with Russian President Vladimir Putin this morning declaring a 'military operation' in Ukraine.
India has been operating special flights to evacuate Indian nationals from Ukraine, however, more than 20,000 Indian students are still in Ukraine.
Over 20,000 Indian students in Ukraine, we are facilitating the return of all Indian nationals including students as we may be required: said India's Permanent Rep to UN, TS Tirumurti at the UNSC meeting on Ukraine.
Tirumurti informed: “We are facilitating the return of all Indian nationals, including Indian students, as required.”
A special flight of Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) this morning landed at IGI Airport in New Delhi Airport from Kyiv this morning, with 182 Indian citizens, including students.
The Indian embassy in Kyiv has been issuing an advisory for the past two weeks to Indian nationals including students to leave the country due to increasing tension between Ukraine and Russia.
Military operation in Ukraine
This morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation in Ukraine. Putin said: “I have made the decision of a military operation,” in a televised address. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that he tried to reach out to Putin, warning that Kremlin could “start a major war in Europe".
Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine adding that Moscow does not plan to occupy Ukraine. Russian President said the military action announced by him will seek to "demilitarize" Ukraine and came in response to threats from Ukraine.
Moments after Putin declared war on Ukraine, large explosions were witnessed in the embattled country’s Kyiv and Kharkiv regions.
Responding to Putin’s announcement of military operation, United States of America President Joe Biden said that the US will coordinate with allies and NATO forces as he fears 'catastrophic loss of life and human suffering' in Ukraine.
