Aakash Bhardwaj Achieves 99.79 Percentile in UGC NET June 2024: Insights into His Preparation Journey, Tips for Success

The National Testing Agency (NTA) recently announced the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) June 2024 results, with Aakash Bhardwaj scoring an impressive 99.79 percentile. The UGC NET, conducted on behalf of the University Grants Commission, determines eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professorships, and Ph.D. programs in Indian universities. Out of over 11 lakh registered candidates, around 6.84 lakh appeared for the exam, with 4,970 qualifying for JRF and 53,694 for Assistant Professorships.
In this interview, Aakash shares his journey, preparation strategies, and advice for future UGC NET aspirants.
Q. Please tell us something about your family and educational background.
Aakash: I come from Udaipura, Madhya Pradesh, and my family consists of my parents, younger sister, and me. My father is a dedicated farmer, and my mother is a homemaker. I graduated with a B.Sc. and later pursued my M.Ed. Prior to UGC NET, I was preparing for civil services in Indore but shifted focus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Q. How many attempts have you taken for UGC NET?
Aakash: This was my fifth attempt at UGC NET.
Q. Tell us about your score in UGC NET 2024. What was your reaction when you saw the result?
Aakash: Clearing UGC NET 2024 with a 99.79 percentile felt like a dream come true! Initially, I was in disbelief. Telling my sister was unforgettable—her joy was infectious.
Q. Who encouraged you the most in this journey?
Aakash: My parents were my biggest support. Their unwavering love and encouragement kept me focused. My father's practical advice and my mother’s belief in me lifted my morale.
Q. What was your routine during UGC NET exam preparation?
Aakash: I started with library study sessions from 8 AM to 12 PM, then joined Adda247 classes from 12 PM to 3 PM. I did three hours of self-study from 4 PM to 7 PM, followed by evening revision till 10 PM to reinforce my learning.
Q. What are your future plans? Which career path are you aiming for?
Aakash: My goal is to secure a faculty position in Central or State Universities.
Q. When did you start preparing for UGC NET?
Aakash: I began in February 2020.
Q. Which colleges and universities are you targeting?
Aakash: I’m aiming for Central University, Harish Chandra College, and Delhi University.
Q. What challenges did you face during your preparation?
Q: Â What is the UGC NET 2024 expected cutoff for all subjects and categories?
The UGC NET 2024 expected cutoff may fall within the range of 216 to 160 for all subjects and categories. The NTA will release the UGC NET 2024 June session cutoff marks after the declaration of the result. Candidates who will meet or exceed the cutoff marks will qualify for further recruitment process.

The UGC NET cut-off 2024 for the December session will be released category-wise, paper-wise, and subject-wise for all 85 subjects. The NTA releases the cut-off marks along with the declaration of the result. Candidates can download the NTA UGC NET cut-off list by following the given steps: a) Visit the official website b) Click on the cut-off link c) Go through the cut-off marks d) Download the PDF.
Aakash: As this was my last attempt, the pressure was intense. Overcoming self-doubt and managing time were major hurdles. I stayed focused by recalling my purpose and drawing on inner resilience.
Q. What was your main subject?
Aakash: History was my main subject.
Q. What were the easiest and toughest sections according to you?
Aakash: I found Section 4 easier due to its straightforward questions. Reasoning, logic, and certain subject-specific sections in Paper 1 were more challenging.
Q. How did you tackle your strong and weak areas?
Aakash: I used mock tests to assess my strengths and weaknesses, and I sought guidance for weaker topics from Adda247 experts. I practiced diligently to address each area.
Q. Did you take any mock tests? How did they help you?
Aakash: Yes, I did, and they were essential! Mock tests showed me where to improve, helped with time management, and boosted my confidence.
Q. What was your strategy to score such high marks in UGC NET?
Aakash: I kept my preparation smart and simple—focusing on revision and managing my time well. I also stayed positive and believed in myself, which made all the difference.
Q. Any tips for students preparing for UGC NET in the coming months?
Aakash: Trust yourself, stay positive, and take care of your well-being. Focus on key topics, take practice tests, and keep adjusting your strategy as you go.
Q. Did you take any coaching for the exam? If not, how did you manage your self-study?
Aakash: Yes, I took coaching from Adda247, which helped me build a strong foundation. Self-study sessions were focused on reviewing class notes and practicing mock tests.
Q. How did you prepare for the UGC NET exam? Can you share your strategy for students?
Aakash: I organized a study plan, practiced with past papers, and maintained a positive outlook. Regular evaluation of my strategy kept me on track. Staying focused and managing stress were essential.

Aakash: I recommend RS Sharma for Ancient History, Satish Chandra for Medieval History, Spectrum for Modern History, and KVS Madan for Paper 1.
