The BPSC 70th exam, scheduled between 12:00 and 2:00 PM, stretched well past its original time, with some candidates still writing until 3:30 PM.

The Bihar Public Service Commission’s (BPSC) 70th Combined Competitive Preliminary Examination turned chaotic on Friday, leaving candidates at Patna’s Bapu Dham Examination Centre frustrated and angry. Allegations of mismanagement and delays in distributing question papers marred the credibility of the examination process, with many candidates raising their voices against the authorities.

What Went Wrong?

The exam, scheduled between 12:00 and 2:00 PM, stretched well past its original time, with some candidates still writing until 3:30 PM. The root of the chaos was a shortage of question papers—one hall received only 192 papers for 273 candidates. Officials attempted to resolve the issue by fetching additional papers from other halls, but this delay left candidates feeling agitated and suspicious.

Adding fuel to the fire, some candidates alleged that the question paper seals were already broken, while others claimed they never received question papers at all. The frustration boiled over, leading to protests outside the center.

Patna DM: Respond

Patna District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh stepped in to address the situation, denying rumors of a question paper leak. He clarified that the delay stemmed from logistical challenges and assured that candidates who started late were given extra time to complete the exam.

“The delay was due to a mismatch in the number of papers required and supplied. While over 11,500 candidates completed the exam peacefully, around 150 to 200 individuals created a commotion,” Singh explained.

BPSC Candidates Demand Accountability

The situation escalated as news of the alleged mismanagement spread. Candidates raised slogans against BPSC, questioning the fairness of the examination. Rumors of the question paper going viral on social media further added to the distrust.

Despite strict security measures by the Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) and Patna police, including late-night patrols and searches of hotels, candidates expressed concerns about the integrity of the exam.

This incident has highlighted the growing challenges BPSC faces in conducting fair and transparent examinations. While authorities have dismissed the allegations of a paper leak as baseless, the candidates’ grievances have sparked a larger conversation about the Commission’s accountability. For now, tighter security measures have been implemented at BPSC offices, and candidates await clearer answers. Whether this will restore trust in the system remains to be seen, but the message from the streets of Patna is loud and clear: candidates want a fair and seamless examination process.
