From Humiliation to Triumph: Ex-Police Constable Uday Krishna Reddy Cracks UPSC CSE 2023 with AIR 780
The turning point came in August 2018 when Reddy was subjected to public ridicule during a routine drill session. His senior officer, displaying open disdain for Reddy's dreams, sarcastically dismissed his ambitions, declaring, "Don't live in your dreams. You are just a constable."
In a tale of resilience and determination, Uday Krishna Reddy, a former police constable from Andhra Pradesh, has emerged victorious in the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023, securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 780. Reddy's journey to this remarkable achievement traces back to a pivotal moment of humiliation in 2018 when a circle inspector publicly shamed him in front of 60 fellow policemen over a personal dispute.
Born and raised in Ullipalem village, Prakasam district, Reddy's childhood was marked by hardship. Having lost his parents at a young age, he was brought up by his grandmother and attended a Telugu medium government school. Despite his challenging background, Reddy joined the Andhra Pradesh Police Department in 2013, driven by a desire to serve his community.
However, his aspirations faced a severe setback when he became the target of relentless mockery and humiliation from his senior officer, the circle inspector. Reddy's ambition to prepare for competitive exams during his leisure time was met with disdain and resentment by his superior, who went to great lengths to belittle him.
The turning point came in August 2018 when Reddy was subjected to public ridicule during a routine drill session. His senior officer, displaying open disdain for Reddy's dreams, sarcastically dismissed his ambitions, declaring, "Don't live in your dreams. You are just a constable." This public humiliation proved to be the catalyst for Reddy's resignation from his position, as he refused to tolerate further degradation of his self-esteem.
Despite submitting his resignation, Reddy's ordeal was far from over. His senior officer, unwilling to accept defeat, refused to forward Reddy's resignation to higher authorities and instead marked him as absent from duty, even issuing a deserter notice a year later. Undeterred by these obstacles, Reddy remained steadfast in his determination to pursue his dream of becoming an IAS officer.
With unwavering resolve, Reddy dedicated himself wholeheartedly to preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. He sought guidance from mentors, including Sarat Chandra from Sarat Chandra IAS Academy, and tirelessly pursued his studies, often investing eight to ten hours a day in rigorous preparation. Reddy's approach focused on quality learning rather than merely logging hours, emphasizing holistic development encompassing physical, cognitive, and spiritual aspects.
After years of perseverance and setbacks, Reddy's efforts finally bore fruit when he secured the 780th rank in the UPSC CSE 2023. His success serves as a testament to the power of resilience in the face of adversity and the unwavering pursuit of one's dreams against all odds.
Looking ahead, Reddy remains determined to continue his journey towards fulfilling his aspirations of serving the nation as an IAS officer. His triumph stands as an inspiration to countless others facing similar challenges, reminding them that with dedication, perseverance, and unwavering resolve, no obstacle is insurmountable on the path to success.
